The Friendship Farm Backpack Buddies were created by Lawrence E. Shapiro, Ph.D. Each soft and animal teaches a different social skill, such as following the rules, expressing feelings, being respectful towards others, and more. Each animal comes with a removable backpack which holds 50 cards, including 30 Question Cards (helps children learn the importance of the specific social skill), 10 Reward Cards (motivates children to think about the importance of the specific social skill), and 10 Be A Friend Action Cards (gives children assignments for in their homes or schools). Counselors can keep the animals on their desks and engage children in dialogue about social interaction in seconds. Or the animals and decks can be used together to play simple learning games for up to four players.


Set includes one each of the following:

Mip the Mouse (Standing Up for Yourself)
Teaches kids how to stand up for themselves. Teaches children the importance of being assertive without being aggressive. It should be particularly helpful for children who are shy or who are being picked on. Mip wears a t-shirt that states, "Stand Up For Yourself - You Matter!"

Casey the Cow (Understanding Feelings)
Teaches children to understand the feelings of others, to communicate their feelings appropriately, and appropriate ways to express their feelings. Casey wears a t-shirt that states, "All Feelings Are OK, It's What You Do With Them That Counts."

Dorie the Duck (Following Rules)
Teaches children the importance of following social rules, both stated and unstated. Dorie wears a t-shirt that states, "Don't Duck the Rules."

Percy the Pig (Being Responsible)
Teaches children the importance of acting responsibly with peers, as well as with adults. Percy wears a t-shirt that states, "Be Responsible In Everything You Do."

Dingo the Dog (Anger Control)
Teaches children about anger-management, and how to resolve their conflicts with others. Dingo wears a t-shirt that states, "Don't Shout, Work It Out."

Connie the Cat (Being Kind to Others)
Teaches children the importance of being kind, considerate, and compassionate. Connie wears a t-shirt that states, "Be Purrr-fectly Kind to Everyone You Meet."
