Product Number : LY-1A

Autism & PDD Primary Social Skills Lessons: School
Ages: 3-8   Grades: PreK-3

The book has 40 ready-to-use lessons (stories).  The concise format makes it easy to keep a copy of the lesson where the social situation occurs.  Each sentence in a story is supported by one or more pictures.  Customize the lessons by adding student-specific information, editing the text, and using a photograph in place of the generic picture in the book.  There are instructional and behavioral lessons.  The instructional lessons can be used as part of a social skills curriculum with small groups of children or individuals.  They teach young children what they need to say or do in social situations that are often overwhelming to children with autism (e.g., Recess).  The behavioral lessons target specific social problems that need to be stopped (e.g., Covering My Cough and Sneeze).  They are best used with an individual child.

The lessons include these topics:

  • Routine Activities—First Day of School, I Finish My Work, Using a Schedule, Recess, Using Markers, Using the Computer, and more
  • Extra-Curricular Activities—Transitions, Gym Class, Going to Speech, and Library
  • Social Skills—Quiet Voice, Raising My Hand, Waiting for Help, and Walking in Line
  • Special Days—Going to an Event, Field Trip, Holidays Away from School, My Teacher Is Sick, Fire Drill, and Tornado Drill
  • Self-Care—Dirty Hands, Using the Rest Room, Covering My Cough and Sneeze, Wearing a Helmet, Going to the School Nurse, and more

Extra helps include:

  • behavior tracking forms and examples
  • behavior analysis forms and examples
  • progress recording forms and examples
  • tracking forms for lessons
  • teaching suggestions
